Public Affairs Specialist, Public Information Office

Jewel Jordan is a public affairs specialist in the Media Relations Branch of the Public Information Office at the U.S. Census Bureau. This office is responsible for developing messaging for the Census Bureau, and for keeping the media, employees and the public informed of U.S. Census Bureau surveys, censuses and programs. In her role as a public affairs specialist, Jewel serves as the media liaison to the Philadelphia region, connecting media outlets in that area with vital statistics for their stories. She specializes in both economic and demographic data and provides training to the media on these topics, as wells as provides Census Bureau subject experts with media training. 

Jewel received a Bronze Medal Award from the Census Bureau for her contributions to the 2020 Census communications campaign where she served as media liaison for the Statistics in Schools program and played a vital role in media outreach and communication. 

Jewel began her career with the Census Bureau in 2015 as a Pathways Intern and transitioned to a Public Affairs Specialist in 2016. She was promoted in 2023 to take on more responsibilities for the team. Jewel earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a focus in public relations from Salisbury University and is currently working towards a certificate in project management.
