Em Shrider is a Survey Statistician in the Poverty Statistics Branch in the Social, Economic and Housing Statistics Division of the U.S. Census Bureau, where she works with poverty data from the Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC). Her current work focuses on noncash benefit measurement in the CPS ASEC, particularly the valuation of school meals.

Prior to joining the Census Bureau, Shrider did post-doctoral work in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned her PhD in sociology from the Ohio State University, where she focused on spatial inequality, Rust Belt immigration, and neighborhood crime.
