Chad Syverson, Ph.D.

George C. Tiao Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business

Dr. Chad Syverson is the George C. Tiao Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He has been on the University of Chicago faculty since 2001. His research spans several topics, with a particular focus on the interactions of firm structure, market structure, and productivity. Dr. Syverson has authored or coauthored dozens of scholarly articles and is the coauthor (with Austan Goolsbee and Steve Levitt) of intermediate-level textbook, Microeconomics. Dr. Syverson is an editor of the Journal of Political Economy, a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, has served on multiple National Academies committees and on the board of the Chicago Census Research Data Center. He teaches classes in competitive strategy and industrial organization. Dr. Syverson received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Maryland in 2001. Before that, he earned bachelor's degrees in economics and mechanical engineering from the University of North Dakota in 1996.
