His applied demography work deals with the evaluation of the implications of using differential privacy in census tabulations. He also conducts research on health disparities in self-reported health, well-being and mortality using nationally representative datasets. His research portfolio also includes the use of administrative records and census data to measure the effect of economic and environmental shocks.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics (2010) at the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey, and later completed the required courses for a minor in Statistics in the same institution (2012). He earned his master’s degree in Economics at the University of Puerto Rico, and a Ph.D. in Applied Demography from the University of Texas at San Antonio (2015).

At the Pennsylvania State University, he is Research Associate at the Population Research Institute, Demographic Data Fellow at the Data Accelerator, and Associate Director for Diversity and Inclusion in Research at the Center for Healthy Aging. In 2018, he was a Summer at Census Scholar hosted by the Population Division, and the Social, Economic and Housing Statistics Division. In the past, he was Director of Graduate Studies in Applied Demography also at the Pennsylvania State University.

Dr. Santos is originally from Caguas, Puerto Rico.
