SEPT. 23, 2016 — The 2012 Mining Subject and Summary Series release comprises seven summary and four subject series reports based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

The Mining Subject and Summary Series reports conclude the 2012 Economic Census releases. Approximately 1,500 reports were released in five series and provide detailed data on businesses at the national, state and local levels. The Economic Census is the most comprehensive source of data for the U.S. economy and essential to understanding the American economy.

The general summary provides statistics by type of operation as well as by subsectors and industries, including employment size and legal form of organization. It also provides data on inventories, primary and secondary product value of shipments and primary product class specialization. 

The subject series reports include materials summary, product summary, location of mines and product class shipments. The location of mines summary provides employment size data for subsectors and industries by state. The product summaries provide products or services statistics including product class shipments or receipts for services for the U.S., selected states and offshore areas. The materials summary provides selected supplies, minerals received for preparation, purchased machinery and fuels consumed data by industry.
