2014 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement Research Files

Press Release Number CB15-TPS.04

The 2014 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement included redesigned questions for income and health insurance coverage. All of the approximately 98,000 addresses in the survey were eligible to receive the redesigned set of health insurance coverage questions. The redesigned income questions were implemented to a subsample of these 98,000 addresses using a probability split panel design.

Included in these files:

  • Public use microdata files for the approximately 30,000 addresses  that received the redesigned income questions. Approximately 68,000 addresses were eligible to receive a set of income questions similar to those used in the 2013 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement, and the remaining 30,000 addresses were eligible to receive the redesigned income questions. The sample source for these data files is the portion of the Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement sample, which received the redesigned income questions, approximately 30,000 addresses.

  • Public use microdata file with estimates of current health insurance coverage for the approximately 30,000 households eligible to receive the redesigned income questions.  A public use file with the current health insurance coverage variables for the approximately 68,000 addresses eligible to receive the traditional income questions was released in September 2014.

  • 2014 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement Replicate Weights – Full Sample and 30,000 addresses eligible to receive the redesigned income questions. The files contain the replicate weights and match keys required to merge the replicate weight files to the public use survey data files. A document providing the data user with instructions on how to create the replicate weight estimates and how to use these estimates to calculate variances is available at <//thedataweb.rm.census.gov/ftp/cps_ftp.html#cpsmarch>.
