The U.S. Census Bureau's "America's Economy" mobile app was recently featured by InformationWeek as one of 10 helpful mobile apps from the government. Out of 140 mobile apps available on apps.usa.gov, InformationWeek's "latest guide to apps from Uncle Sam," said "The same information that moves the stock market is available to smartphone users in the form of the 'America's Economy' app from the Census Bureau."

"America's Economy" has been cited by the White House as an example of how the Census Bureau is a federal digital leader. At an event marking the three-month anniversary of the Federal Digital Strategy last year, U.S. Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel cited the Census Bureau as a prime example of a federal agency "making great strides toward putting a solid foundation for a 21st century digital government in place."

To date, "America's Economy" has more than 85,750 downloads. Free and easy to use, "America's Economy" is available for both Apple and Android phones and tablets. The app provides real-time updates for 16 key economic indicators from the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics and Bureau of Economic Analysis. The app, in partnership with BLS and BEA, combines data to provide users with a better picture about the health of the U.S. economy.

"We welcome the recognition from InformationWeek of the Census Bureau's efforts to use 21st century technology to meet our centuries-old mission," said William Bostic Jr., the Census Bureau's associate director for economic programs. "We are making the statistics that define our growing, changing nation more accessible to the public than ever before."
