For Immediate Release: Monday, December 09, 2013

Media Advisory — Census Bureau to Host Web Conference on 2008-2012 American Community Survey Statistics for All Places across the Nation

Press Release Number CB13-212

What:

The U.S. Census Bureau will hold a Web conference to discuss the Dec. 17 release of the 2008-2012 American Community Survey statistics. The data collected over the five-year period provide statistics for all places in the nation down to the block group level. The Web conference will include guidance on how to access and use these statistics, a demonstration of Census Explorer — an interactive map that allows users to display social, economic and housing characteristics of their state, county or census tract since the 1990 and 2000 censuses — and a question-and-answer session.

The American Community Survey provides a wide range of important statistics about people and housing for every community across the nation. Everyone from retailers and homebuilders to town and city planners use the results. The survey is the only source of local statistics for most of the 40 topics it covers, such as education, occupation, language, ancestry and housing costs for even the smallest communities. Ever since Thomas Jefferson directed the first census in 1790, the census has collected detailed characteristics about our nation's people.

Please dial in by phone to listen to a simultaneous audio conference while viewing the online presentation. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.
