Census Bureau's Wolfisch Recognized as Top Innovation Leader

Press Release Number CB13-207

Lisa Wolfisch, chief of the U.S. Census Bureau's Web and Social Media Branch, has been named a top innovator by FierceGovernmentIT's "Fierce 15," a list of the 15 most innovative employees working in government information technology.

"Wolfisch's persistence in developer engagement and feedback integration has contributed to the efficiency and accountability of the Census Bureau," said FierceGovernmentIT, which tracks federal government information technology developments in U.S. government. "Her dedication to creating some of the most efficient application programming interfaces nine months prior to mandate has led to a collaborative push across the bureau and exemplary APIs."

Since overseeing the implementation of the Census Bureau's 2010 Census website, Wolfisch has focused her efforts on the agency's digital transformation project. This project is improving access to Census Bureau statistics and introducing new audiences to them with embeddable data tools, website enhancements and new services including the Census Open API and mobile apps, America's Economy and dwellr.

Wolfisch has coordinated efforts across the agency on these and other components of digital transformation to create a modern platform for data dissemination, providing access anywhere, any time, and on any device.

"Lisa's contributions and demonstration of leadership have helped the Census Bureau to establish one of the most successful APIs in the government, allowing developers to unlock the value of our data and spur innovation," said John H. Thompson, director of the Census Bureau.
