The Manufacturing and Trade Inventories and Sales estimates are based on data from three surveys: the Monthly Retail Trade Survey, the Monthly Wholesale Trade Survey, and the Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories, and Orders Survey. The purpose of this report is to provide broad and timely measures of combined changes in domestic retail trade, wholesale trade and manufacturers' activities. It provides the only source of monthly data on total business activities of retail trade, wholesale trade, and manufacturers.

Intention to Revise - Revisions to the Wholesale estimates for sales and inventories were released on March 27, 2024, and are reflected in this release. Revisions to the Retail estimates will be released on April 23, 2024, and will be reflected in the March 2024 MTIS release scheduled for May 15, 2024. Revised historical data from the Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories, and Orders (M3) Survey will be issued on May 14, 2024, and these revisions will be based on the results of the annual review of the seasonal adjustment models. Revisions to the Manufacturing estimates will be reflected in the March 2024 MTIS release scheduled for May 15, 2024.

API - The URL for the economic indicators data in the Census Bureau API (Application Programming Interface) has been updated to add /timeseries/. Examples can be found on the Developers’ webpage.
