What is Manufacturing Day?

Manufacturing Day is held annually on the first Friday in October to celebrate this important sector of the nation's economy. The U.S. Census Bureau joins the celebration by providing a week's worth of rich content, including statistics that inform businesses and policymakers. Collectively, the data paint a picture of the state of this vital economic sector.

One of the goals of Manufacturing Day is to encourage thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers, and community leaders.

Data Spotlight

Recently released, the 2017 Economic Census First Look report provides preliminary National-level data on the number of employer establishments, employment, annual payroll, and revenue for nearly every 2- thru 6-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code.

On October 4th, the Census Bureau will release historical QFR data electronically. For the first time, data will cover manufacturing back to 1947 and mining, wholesale trade and retail trade back to 1974.
