This presentation from the North American Migration Working Group highlights the growing importance of international migration, specifically looking at discussion among Canada, the United States, and Mexico on the applicability of UN recommendations to the North American experiene. The necessary first step being the Doumentation (Metadata) Project, which investigates whether variables of interest exist for all countries, whether definitions are the same across countries, and what the sources of data and their availability are for the collection of information. The project framework includes characteristics (e.g. the legal status of temporary migrants by size, attributes, and impact), border crossings, and timing.
