Appendix A. CPS Identification of Opposite-Sex Cohabitors: Key Scenarios

 

This table shows key household composition scenarios and how they are identified by three different measures: the CPS self-identified partner method, the traditional POSSLQ method, and the Adjusted POSSLQ method. In this table, it is assumed that the self-identified measure identifies all "true" partner relationships that involve household reference people. The table shows the number of households fitting each scenario in 1997 (in thousands), as identified by each measure. Where relationships cannot be identified using the CPS household roster, symbols indicate whether each measure identifies a non-marital partner household.
