This webinar was presented on June 24, 2020. The 2017 American Housing Survey asked respondents if they would describe their neighborhood as Urban, Suburban, or Rural.
This webinar explores this topic in more detail, covering the motivation for asking the question and an overview of the results.
The webinar compares how federal definitions of urban and rural align with how people describe their neighborhood and introduces a data product that facilitates those types of comparisons.
Also, the webinar discusses the Urbanization Perceptions Small Area Index (UPSAI), which uses neighborhood description data to produce an improved nationwide area urbanization classification based on people's description of their neighborhood.
