Economics and Statistics Administration: Digital Matching Economy

Justin Antonipillai speaks about exploring the Digital Matching Economy

If you've ever taken an Uber, driven for Lyft, rented a place on Airbnb, listed your place on Homeaway, or used your smartphone to order products or services, congratulations: You're part of the "digital matching economy."

Some call it the "sharing" or "gig" economy. Whatever we call it, this is a booming sector. It's becoming part of our daily lives. It's transforming how we connect customers and merchants – building trust and ensuring quality control through instant feedback, and offering providers a way to reach customers and share their cars, homes, services and time in flexible ways, with a low entry barrier. The digital matching economy is also transforming traditional industries and the labor market.
