The Older Population in the United States: March 1999

Abstract

This report presents a statistical portrait of selected social and economic characteristics of the civilian noninstitutional population age 55 years and over in the United States. These characteristics, which are shown by age and sex, include race and Hispanic origin,1 marital status, educational attainment, labor force status, in-come, and poverty status. The findings are based on the results of the March 1999 Current Population Survey (CPS).
