Overview

This report is the first in a series dealing with homeownership affordability. Using the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), it presents a microlevel analysis of affordability by "qualifying" individual families and unrelated individuals for the purchase of several criterion homes in the area where they live. By utilizing information on income, assets, and debts, the report shows whether the family or individual could qualify using both conventional and FHA mortgage guidelines for a 30-year mortgage.
