Earnings of Married-Couple Families: 1987

Report Number P60-165

Abstract

This report provides data on annual earnings of husbands and wives and their combined earnings as married couples. Tables on earnings are cross classified by work experience, occupation of longest job, and years of school completed by husband and wife. Other tables present selected characteristics of husbands and wives by their age.

The report also shows data, by age of couple's own children, for such characteristics of husband and wife as their age, years of school completed, mean earnings, work experience (full or part time), and occupation of longest held job.

A table gives data on characteristics of husbands and of wives for married-couple families with wives' earnings greater than husbands' earnings and wives' earnings 80 to 100 percent of husbands' earnings.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
