Overview

Provides statistics on demographic, social, and economic characteristics, including limited information for regions and States.

For the United States this report includes statistics on the Black, Hispanic, elderly, farm, city, suburban, metropolitan and non-metropolitan populations. Also, the report gives information on geographical mobility, school enrollment, educational attainment, households and families, marital status and living arrangements, fertility, labor force and occupation, money income, and poverty.

In addition, for population trends and projections, the report includes individual States as well as the United States.

The publication also includes charts, which depict selected aspects of the data provided in the text, and summary tables, which show selected national demographic, social, and economic characteristics for 1970 and annually since 1980.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
