This report describes alternative procedures for valuing non-cash benefits received by the low-income population and presents estimates of the effect of these benefits on the size and composition in 1985. This report updates estimates covering 1979 through 1984 which have been published in previous technical papers released by the Bureau of the Census. The methods used to assign values to noncash benefits received in 1985 were identical to those in previous years.
