Future Fertility of Women by Present Age and Parity: Analysis of American Historical Data, 1917-80

Written by:
Report Number: P23-142

Overview

Presents data on fertility by present age and number of children. For example, the report shows women 23 years old with two children and projects figures for additional children during childbearing years at fertility rates for various years (such as 1927 and 1957). The report presents separate data for White women and for women of all other races combined. Similar studies in the past were restricted to women at the beginning of their childbearing period.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
