1970 Census - Population, Subject Reports: Veterans

This report presents detailed statistics for the United States on the demographic, social, and economic characteristics of the civilian male veteran population 16 years old and over. In addition, some characteristics of housing units occupied by veterans are included. The statistics are based on the 1970 Census of Population.

The text consists of an introduction and Appendices A through E, which appear after the tables.

Content of the Tables

  • Table 1 – civilian male veterans by single years of age by period of service
  • Tables 5, 10, 13, 15, 20, and 22 – periods of service cross-classified by pertinent social or economic characteristics
  • Tables 2-7 – marital status, living arrangements, number and age of own children, years of school completed, labor force status, employment status, and weeks worked in 1969
  • Tables 8-16 – earnings in 1969, personal income of veterans, and income of families headed by veterans
  • Tables 18-22 – veterans in institutions by type, mobility status of veterans, and the activity of veterans in 1965
  • Tables 17, 23-25 – housing of veterans

Sample size. The statistics in this report are based on the 15-percent sample adjusted to represent the total population (see "Data Collection Procedures" in Appendix A).
