1970 Census of Population, Subject Reports: Employment Status and Work Experience

Report Number PC(2)-6A

This report presents detailed statistics for the United States on the employment status and work experience of the population classified by various demographic, social, and economic characteristics. The statistics are based on the 1970 Census of Population.

The text consists of an introduction and Appendices A through E, which appear after the tables.

Content of the Tables

Most tables are restricted to the population 16 years old and over, but some tables refer to the population 14 years old and over for purposes of historical comparison. Specifically, tables 2, 4, 5, 8, and 14 present historical data on labor force status, and tables 20 and 21 show historical data on weeks worked. Characteristics compared include age, race, sex, type of residence, household relationship, marital status, school enrollment, years of school completed, residence in 1965, family status, presence of own children, children ever born, and income in 1969.

Sample size. The statistics in this report are based on a sample adjusted to represent the total population. The 1970data in all tables are based on the 5-percent sample, except tables 10 and 25, which are based on the 15-percent sample (see "Data Collection Procedures" in Appendix A).
