This report presents statistics for the United States on birthplace, residence in 1965, and residence in 1970 for persons 5 years old and over. The data are based on the 1970 Census of Population.

The text consists of an introduction and Appendices A through E, which appear after the tables.

Content of the Tables

• Tables 1-6 – summary data for the United States as a whole for persons 5 years old and over according to whether or not they were living in their State of birth in 1965 and 1970. Characteristics include age, sex, race, Spanish heritage, years of school completed, enrollment status, relative progress in school, employment status, major occupation group, family income in 1969, and children ever born.
  
• Tables 7-11 – specific streams of movement in terms of State or division of residence in 1970, division of residence in 1965, and division of birth. Age, sex, and race. of persons in these streams of movement are shown.
  
• Tables 12-13 – information on division of residence in 1970, division of residence in 1965, and division of birth for persons 25 to 64 years old, cross-classified by age, sex, race, and years of school completed.

Sample size. The statistics presented in this report are based on a 15-percent sample adjusted to represent the total population.
