1960 Population of Voting Age and Votes Cast for President, 1964 and 1960, for States and Counties

This report brings together for States and counties the available data on the 1960 population of voting age, and on votes cast in the 1960 and 1964 Presidential elections. Table 1 shows State data; figures for counties are given in table 2. Estimates of the population of voting age for November 1964 are shown for States only; corresponding data for counties are not available. Both tables show figures on the nonwhite population of voting age in each area, as of April 1960.
The voting age population relates to those 21 years old and over in all States except as follows: 18 years old and over for Georgia and Kentucky; 19 years old and over for Alaska; and 20 years old and over for Hawaii. They include members of the Armed Forces of voting age stationed in each area. Counties (and independent cities) which contained more than 1,000 resident military personnel in April 1960 (based on the 1960 Census) are indicated by an asterisk (*).
