The final reports of the 1960 Population Census are arranged in three volumes and a joint Population-Housing series of census tract reports. Volume II (Series PC(2) reports) are Subject Reports. Each report concentrates on a particular subject. Detailed information and cross-relationships are generally provided on a national and regional level. In a few reports, data for States or standard metropolitan statistical areas are also shown.
This report, designated as PC(2)-1E, presents 25-percent sample data on the mother tongue of the foreign-born population. Statistics on mother tongue are shown by age, sex, color, years of school completed, and country of birth for the United States and regions. A distribution of the mother tongue of the foreign-born population is shown for States and for standard metropolitan statistical areas of 250,000 or more with 25,000 or more foreign-born persons.
