1960 Census: Subject Reports, Nativity and Parentage: Social and Economic Characteristics of the Foreign Stock by Country of Origin

PC(2)-1A

The final reports of the 1960 Population Census are arranged in three volumes and a joint Population-Housing series of census tract reports. Volume II (Series PC(2) reports) are Subject Reports. Each report concentrates on a particular subject. Detailed information and cross-relationships are generally provided on a national and regional level. In a few reports, data for States or standard metropolitan statistical areas are also shown.

This report, designated as PC(2)-1A, presents 25-percent sample data on the social and economic characteristics of the population by nativity, parentage, and country of origin. Data are shown separately for native persons of native parentage, native persons of foreign or mixed parentage, and foreign-born persons.

This information includes statistics on age, sex, color, years of school completed, marital status, and occupation of the employed for the United States and regions. Age data are shown by country of origin and metropolitan status for the foreign born and native of foreign or mixed parentage, for the United States and regions. Age of the foreign stock by nativity and sex, and by color, is shown for the United States and States.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
