Report Number PC(2)-2D

The final reports of the 1960 Population Census are arranged in three volumes and a joint Population-Housing series of census tract reports. Volume II (Series PC(2) reports) are Subject Reports. Each report concentrates on a particular subject. Detailed information and cross-relationships are generally provided on a national and regional level. In a few reports, data for States or standard metropolitan statistical areas are also shown.

This report, designated as PC(2)-2D, presents statistics for persons 5 years old and over on birthplace, cross-classified by residence in 1955 and in 1960, and by age, sex, color, nativity, and education. The focus is on the interstate migration of the native population. The age distribution is in terms of 5-year intervals, with a terminal age group 75 years old and over. Years of school completed is shown for the population 25 to 64 years old. All of the statistics are based on a 25-percent sample of the population.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
