1960 Census of Population: Subject Reports: State of Birth

Report Number PC(2)-2A

The final reports of the 1960 Population Census are arranged in three volumes and a joint Population-Housing series of census tract reports. Volume II (Series PC(2) reports) are Subject Reports. Each report concentrates on a particular subject. Detailed information and cross-relationships are generally provided on a national and regional level. In a few reports, data for States or standard metropolitan statistical areas are also shown.

This report, designated as PC(2)-2A, presents 25-percent sample data on State of birth of the native population living in the United States at the time of the census. Statistics include cross-classification by age, color, sex, and State of residence in 1960, and are presented for the United States, by metropolitan-nonmetropolitan residence, and for regions, divisions, States, and standard metropolitan statistical areas of 250,000 inhabitants or more.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
