This report presents final 1960 population counts and basic demographic characteristics of the population for Guam, the Virgin Islands of the United States, American Samoa, and the Canal Zone. Comparable statistics for 1950 and earlier censuses are also shown in some of the tables.
All of the statistics presented in this report are based on a complete count of the population. The data shown for each area include total number of inhabitants, age, race or color, and sex. Additional data are presented in the complete reports for the four areas (see list of reports on page 2).
The data presented here are reprinted from the PC(1)-A and PC(1)-B Final Reports for each of the four areas.
The PDF to the right contains the 12-page report.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
