Preliminary results of the 1950 Census of Housing were published in a series of reports, HC-1, HC-2, HC-3, HC-4, and HC-5. The data were based either on preliminary field counts or preliminary sample tabulations.
Series HC-4, are preliminary reports on selected housing characteristics, based on tabulations of samples of dwelling units. The HG-4 reports are for the 10 States with the largest population in 1940, and for Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
