1930 Census: Materials Used in Manufactures, 1929

The net value of manufactures is approximately two-thirds of the reported gross value of products, due to duplication – the products of certain plants were used as the materials for further manufacture in others.

Three sections include tables and diagrams.

  1. Place of materials in manufactures: Introduction, classification, sources of materials, varying importance in industries, secondary materials, new combinations, census data
  2. Elimination of duplications in material costs: Material costs and gross value of products, indirectness of manufacture, determination of net value of products, material costs and net value
