This report shows in detail the production, in quantity and value, of commodities as classified by the Census of Manufacturers, 1929, as well as the number of establishments engaged in their production. It is the only report that presents the complete list of commodities. The cross-referenced commodity index is a convenient innovation.
In addition, the report supplements the Census of Manufacturers by showing the number of establishments engaged in the production of each commodity. These presentations have been compiled for the use of manufacturers and others as an aid in market analysis.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
