This volume incorporates the second series of advance population bulletins. The statistics show the composition of the urban and rural population of the State, counties, and cities (having a population of 1,000 or more), by color, nativity, sex, age, citizenship, school attendance, illiteracy, number gainfully employed by industry groups, country of origin of foreign white stock, etc. Comparisons with the results of earlier censuses are included.
Part 1 contains a summary for the United States, and the statistics for the states Alabama to Missouri. Part 2 presents the stats for the remaining states, from Montana to Wyoming.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
