This is the seventh volume of the 11 final reports of the Fourteenth Census, taken in the year 1920. The statistics and other materials found in these volumes are based upon data originally issued as advance bulletins for population, agriculture, irrigation, drainage, manufactures, and mines and quarries.
Volume VII, Irrigation and Drainage, contains a general report and analytical tables and reports for states, with stats for counties.
The statistics of irrigation show number of farms and acreage irrigated, irrigated acreage by character of enterprise and character of water rights, acreage by drainage basin, capital invested and cost of operation and maintenance, quantity of water used, crops according to acreage yield, and value of crops grown on irrigated land.
Drainage statistics relate to the artificial drainage of land in farms, and of other land that ultimately will be used for agricultural purposes. Drainage on farms and stats for operating drainage enterprises are shown by states and counties. A final series of tables groups together stats gathered for the states for which no advance bulletins were issued.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
