1900 Census: Volume X. Manufactures, Part 4. Special Reports on Selected Industries (Continued)

This is the final Census Report on Manufactures of the Twelfth Census, taken in the year 1900.

Part IV, which constitutes Volume X of the Census Reports, is a continuation of Part III, and contains the remainder of special reports. Industries include iron and steel; tin and terne plate; lead, copper, and zinc, smelting and refining; shipbuilding; locomotives; cars, steam railroad; carriages and wagons; bicycles and tricycles; agricultural implements; metal-working machinery; sewing machines, needles and pins; typewriters; musical instruments and materials; watches and watch cases; and pens and pencils.

It also contains reports on the manufacture of chemicals, petroleum, coke, and manufactured gas. It concludes with the reports on the utilization of wastes and by-products in manufactures, and patents in their relation to manufactures.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
