1800 Census: Return of the Whole Number of Persons within the Several Districts of the United States

Tables for the United States by districts and Territories, and for individual districts and Territories by counties and towns present data showing number of free white males and females by age, all other free persons except Indians not taxed, slaves, and in most instances the total in each town, county, etc. Additional returns received from the State of Maryland are given at end of volume (but are included with original returns from Maryland in reprint). Returns from Tennessee, mentioned as not received in letter of transmittal, are included.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
