The postcard dates between 1903 and 1913 — the years that the Census Bureau was part of the Department of Commerce and Labor. On March 14, 1913, Labor became a separate department while the Census Bureau remained a part of the Department of Commerce.
Over the next 30 years, the Census Bureau's headquarters moved to several locations before relocating to its permanent home in Suitland, MD, in 1942.
