This print is of the Superintendent of the Census Francis Amasa Walker's family home in North Brookfield, MA. Walker spent part of his childhood there and returned to convalesce from wounds received during the Civil War Battle of Chancellorsville. The home was later known as the "Batcheller House" after the marriage of Francis’s sister, Emeline Walker, and Alfred Hubbard Batcheller, then owner of one of the largest shoe factories in the world. Although hidden by decades of shrubbery, the home still stands at the corner of North Main and Mt. Pleasant Streets.
