2020 Census Geographic Areas Reference Maps

The Geographic Areas Reference Map Series is a page-size, state-based map series created for each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands to support 2020 Census data dissemination. This series includes three map types:

  1. State-based County Outline Map – This small-scale outline map shows and labels all of the county or county-equivalent entities within a state or state equivalent. County-equivalent entities include independent city, parish, borough, city and borough, municipality, and census area.
  2. County Reference Map – This small-scale reference map shows and labels geographic entities that are wholly or partially within the subject county or county equivalent. Geographic entities shown include American Indian/Alaska Native areas, Hawaiian home lands, county subdivisions, incorporated places, and census designated places.
  3. American Indian Tribal Subdivision Map – This small-scale reference map shows and labels all American Indian tribal subdivisions located partially or wholly within the subject state for a given American Indian area. American Indian tribal subdivisions are legal administrative subdivisions of federally recognized American Indian reservations and off-reservation trust lands or are statistical subdivisions of Oklahoma tribal statistical areas (OTSAs). Not all reservations, off-reservation trust lands, and OTSAs have tribal subdivisions.
