Proximate Determinants of Fertility Estimation Tool

The Proximate Determinants of Fertility Estimation Tool is an Excel workbook designed to easily calculate the aggregate versions of the proximate determinants of fertility models developed by John Bongaarts (1978, 1982) and John Stover (1998). This tool includes a user-friendly spreadsheet interface for data entry and automatic estimation of each proximate determinant.

To estimate the proximate determinants of fertility, this tool requires numerical data for input into formulas that estimate each proximate determinant index and model derivatives. This tool is compatible with data available from the USAID Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) program. However, input data for the tool can originate from any survey, census, or administrative data source providing the requisite variables.
