2022 Local Estimates of Internet Adoption (LEIA)

2022 Local Estimates of Internet Adoption (LEIA)

The Local Estimates of Internet Adoption (LEIA) is a Census Bureau experimental data product that provides county-level estimates of high-speed internet adoption across the nation.

The federal government has created a number of programs meant to improve the availability, adoption, and use of high-speed Internet service, such as the Digital Equity Act programs. Towards this effort, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration has sponsored the Bureau to develop one-year, small area estimates of internet adoption at the county level. The purpose of LEIA is to provide timely and accurate estimates of high-speed internet adoption across the country.

We employ 1-year American Community Survey microdata, auxiliary data from the Federal Communications Commission, and small area estimation modeling techniques.1  This produces reliable estimates of internet adoption for all counties in the United States.

Data users can download LEIA data, its feasibility report, and quick guide below.
