Measuring Housing Affordability: Housing Cost Ratios and Burden

Description

Housing cost ratios, or the percentage of household income a household spends on housing expenses, offer an excellent measure of housing affordability and excessive shelter costs. A household is said to be cost-burdened when it pays more than 30 percent of its income toward housing expenses.

This presentation will use the latest American Community Survey (ACS) estimates to show housing cost ratios and the level of housing cost burden for renters and owners and how that varies between certain geographies.
