National Processing Center (NPC)

The National Processing Center (NPC) is the U.S. Census Bureau’s primary center for mail processing, survey processing, data capture, and imaging/scanning. We have two Contact Centers that respond to caller inquiries and conduct telephone interviews.

If you want to verify that the person who called you is a Census Bureau employee and know the name of the person who contacted you, you may enter the name into the Census Bureau Staff Search.

If you want to verify the toll-free number or the local number displayed on Caller ID is legitimate, please visit Call from an Interviewer.

If you have been contacted about a survey or census and

  • want to verify that the person who called you is a Census Bureau employee, but do not know the name of the person who contacted you,
  • have a question about a survey form you received, or
  • need to return a call about one of our surveys

Jeffersonville, IN (Eastern)
Monday - Friday: 7AM to 9PM
Saturday: 7AM to 9PM
Sunday: 11AM to 9PM
Tucson, AZ (Mountain)
Monday - Friday: 6AM to 10PM
Saturday: 7AM to 7:30PM
Sunday: 9AM to 10PM
