ASEC User Note: Distance of Move Estimates from 2003 to 2005
Caution should be used when comparing numbers/percents for distance moved between the 2002-2003 to 2004-2005 period with later periods. A change in processing resulted in a shift in the distribution of movers and distance moved for these years. Intercounty movers with imputed geographies were likely overimputed for longer distance moves while shorter distance moves were likely underimputed during this time. This resulted in both a decrease in the number of intercounty moves 200 to 499 miles, and an increase in the number of intercounty moves less than 50 miles, demonstrated by comparing the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 estimates. The change in percent is less noticeable during the processing transition, with the exception of less than 50 miles.
