Jennifer Smits

Jennifer Smits is chief of the Public Information Office's Media Relations Branch, which is responsible for planning media outreach, providing reporters with information needed to complete their stories and cultivating relationships with members of the media. Smits joined the Census Bureau in 2009 as a public affairs specialist in the 2010 Census Media Relations Branch. Smits has also managed the Census Bureau’s blogs and social media team.
Smits previously worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a public affairs specialist in the Mississippi Recovery Office, which focused on Mississippi’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina. Smits holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from West Virginia University.
