The reports on housing are presented in four volumes. Volume III, Characteristics by Monthly Rent or Value, is printed in three parts.
Pt. 1. United States summary (Title page, Contents and Introduction are in the PDF to the right.)
Pt. 2. Alabama – New Hampshire
Pt. 3. New Jersey – Wyoming
The tables for each State are arranged in two sections with statistics for the State, and for large cities and metropolitan districts. Data are presented on monthly rent or value of home cross-classified with such characteristics as type and age of structure, state of repair, number of rooms, size of household and race of head, persons per room, housing facilities and equipment, and mortgage status.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
