Advance Report on Durable Goods Prior Press Releases

New Orders

NEW ORDERS for manufactured durable goods in November decreased $5.7 billion or 3.1 percent to $180.1 billion, the Department of Commerce, U.S. Census Bureau reported today. This was the largest percent decline since September 2002.

Shipments

SHIPMENTS of manufactured durable goods in November, up six of the last seven months, increased $0.1 billion or 0.1 percent to $184.1 billion.

Unfilled Orders

UNFILLED ORDERS for manufactured durable goods in November, up four consecutive months, increased $2.2 billion or 0.4 percent to $502.3 billion.

Inventories

INVENTORIES of manufactured durable goods in November, down thirty-two of the last thirty-four months, decreased $0.3 billion or 0.1 percent to $262.1 billion.

Capital Goods Industries

Defense

New orders in November decreased $0.4 billion or 4.7 percent to $8.8 billion.

Nondefense

New orders in November decreased $4.0 billion or 6.4 percent to $57.8 billion.


Released December 24, 2003. This report presents advance information on two key business indicators: durable goods manufacturers' shipments and orders. Revised and more detailed estimates plus nondurable goods will be published January 6, 2004. The advance report on durable goods for December is scheduled for January 28, 2004.
