NOTE: Public Use Microdata Areas (PUMAs) are geographic areas of 100,000 or more population and are included on the Census 2000 5 Percent Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files.
Super-PUMAs are geographic areas of 400,000 or more population and are included on both the 1 percent and 5 percent Census 2000 PUMS files. Each Super-PUMA contains roughly 1 to 4 PUMAS.
Please see the geographic equivalency files for each state for the geographic composition of each PUMA and Super-PUMA. These text files are located in the state directories found on the ftp site at www2.census.gov/census_2000/datasets/PUMS/ and have the naming convention of PUMEQn-xx.txt where n = 1 or 5 and xx = the state abbreviation.
