Use the links to view the forms used to collect data for the Survey of Construction, which consists of New Residential Construction and New Residential Sales data. These forms are samples only. Please do not use them to report data for the Survey of Construction. All forms and letters are in PDF format.


Form SOC QI, "Survey of Construction" for Single-family and Multifamily Buildings is used to collect data on individual houses and buildings that were selected for the SOC sample. Data collected includes start date, completion date, sales date, sales price (single-family houses only), and physical characteristics of each structure.


Form SOC QBPO, "Questionnaire for the Building Permit Official" is used to collect information regarding procedures for handling building permits in permit offices sampled for the SOC. This data is used internally by Census field representatives for accurate classification of building permits in the survey.


Title 13 United States Code, Sections 131 and 182, authorizes the Census Bureau to conduct this collection and to request your voluntary assistance. The U.S. Census Bureau is required by Section 9 of the same law to keep your information confidential and can use your responses only to produce statistics. The Census Bureau is not permitted to publicly release your responses in a way that could identify your business, organization, or institution. Per the Federal Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2015, your data are protected from cybersecurity risks through screening of the systems that transmit your data.
